Application of ball mill in cement plant
Most often ball mills are used in cement plants for grinding raw materials and coal, as well as for fine grinding of cement.
Optimization of existing ball mills usually begins with the correct design of armor linings, determining the optimal composition of grinding media and the degree of filling of the mill with them. In this case, it is also necessary to take into account the individual characteristics of the material being ground. The armor lining of a typical two-chamber mill consists of lifting armor plates in the first chamber and sorting armor plates in the second. In the second chamber, sorting armor plates are installed, and their profile is made in such a way as to achieve fine grinding of the material due to the close contact of the grinding bodies. The maximum diameter of the balls is usually in the range of 80 - 90 mm, the smallest balls have a diameter of 18 mm. The degree of filling with grinding media varies from 23 to 33%, depending on what is the priority: the minimum specific energy consumption or the maximum productivity of the mills.
For the efficient operation of mills, along with the correct design of the armor lining and the optimal selection of grinding media, great importance is attached to the degree of filling with grinding media and the degree of ventilation of the mills. The best grinding results are achieved if the material to be ground is constantly surrounded by grinding media. This is a guarantee that energy is directed to its grinding.
